Our History
The Hartman family has proudly served businesses, government entities, and education accounts in the south Puget Sound area for 3 generations.
Bill Hartman, Sr. started Capital Business Machines in 1952 as an office machine’s dealership. In the beginning CBM sold and serviced cash registers, calculators and typewriters. CBM quickly gained a reputation for providing high-quality office equipment at fair prices. Excellent support, customer service and training were key elements to CBM’s early success. Bill passed away on August 27th, 2006.
Don Hartman, Sr., purchased CBM from his father, Bill. He further expanded the company product line and is credited with introducing copiers, electronic cash register systems, dictation equipment, electronic typewriters, word processors and computers. Don retired in 1997 and sold the business to his three sons Don, Dean, and Stacey. Don now fills his time with traveling and fishing.
Dean Hartman joined the company in 1978 as a copier technician. He not only learned about the technical side of the business, he also learned how to provide excellent customer service. Dean then joined the Sales Department where he quickly learned about managing accounts and meeting monthly quotas! Today, Dean is actively involved in the company’s day to day operations and expanding the scope and depth of CBM’s business. He continues to build on customer relationships that he cultivated from clear back to when he was a technician. Dean currently serves as CBM’s Vice-President.
Don Hartman joined the family business in 1989 selling vending machine equipment. Today, Don is CBM’s Government Accounts Manager and sells copiers and multi-function devices to the State of Washington and Government agencies. He dedicates himself to finding the best solutions for his clients and their ever changing environments. Clients appreciate that Don proposes the most beneficial and economical solutions for their offices. Don has built trusting and loyal relationship for over 20 years.
Stacey Hartman started with CBM in 1983 as a part time delivery driver and also performed general maintenance duties. Now, after gaining over 30 years of experience at CBM, Stacey serves as CBM’s Network Sales Consultant and Training Center Manager. Stacey takes great pride in assisting his clients from expanding, upgrading, or installing a new network to taking training classes or renting our training facilities.
